We did a terrific hiking trip with Alpine Travel from May 6 to May 25. We spent nearly 3 weeks in Greece, hiking through the Meteora, Naxos, Santorini and Crete. We were a large group: 16 hikers from Quebec, Canada. We had a terrific guide: Come Saint Dizier. The success of the trip was certainly due to Come. He was very knowledgeable about the trails, the history of the area and its people, the Greek mythology. He was very attentive to each member of the group. In taverna/restaurants, he ordered delicious meals, taking into account the food allergies that a number of people had. On the trails, he was very sensitive to the few who had vertigo problems (he carried the day pack of a hiker to help her). He adjusted hiking pace to let people fill up their cameras with the gorgeous sceneries that we saw, and, when appropriate, to let us take rests. He was very patient, because we were a large group, not always the most disciplined and with, let say, a very special sense of humor. He became quickly not only our guide, but also our friend. Come made us fall in love with Greece. We are definitively interested to go back again, and discover other areas of this magnificent country. When we return, we will absolutely want to be guided by Come. He is certainly a terrific asset to Greek Alpine Travel.

We are back in Paris with loads of nice souvenirs from Creta, and of the nice people we met there. Anyway, I want to let you know that we all 6 have been very touched by your hospitality. The 4 girls can't stop asking when do we plan to go back.

Dear all the moms or dads out there trolling the internet looking for a perfect family vacation: you should stop here. Alpine will take you on a trip that is nothing less than a privilege in its beauty and delights, and they will make it luxuriously easy, less expensive and less mentally taxing than going yourselves. Our daughters (ages 9 and 13) have traveled with us all their lives and this was the first time I didn't have to do anything other than have a gloriously beautiful, fun, deeply satisfying trip. All of us did. We kayaked the Libyan Sea and hiked the gorges of southwestern Crete, all at an ideal pace. We were so often by ourselves in heavenly surroundings --wild thyme wafting through the air as we paddled in see-through aquamarine water-- we had to stop for a reality check. We knew we were seeing all the most wonderful places and were being led by a guide who knew them thoroughly and loved them too. Dave, our guide, was the perfect teacher and raconteur; the food--we ate every meal outside for 10 days!--was what you dream of--real, fresh, Greek. When we had to reschedule our entire trip, George did it for us without blinking an eye; when my daughter got sick, he arranged for a ferry. Wherever Alpine is going we want to follow.

Dear George, a very big thank you to you and Dave and Laurent of course for organizing our trip in Crete. We had a brilliant time and loved the walks especially the Aradhena gorge… I could have written pages and pages about the wonderful flowers and the ancient olive trees(mike's speciality), the lovely temple at Lissos and our exciting diversions up precipitous roads to unheard of villages where the raki is really quite nice.

Dear George, just a quick line to say how much we all thoroughly enjoyed the excursion on 14 October – it was a great experience. Many thanks also to Laurent – who was an excellent guide for the day.
Many thanks, Les Allan

Hi George and George. Sara and I want to thank you both for the most wonderful time we had during late May and early June in Corfu. We were very appreciative of George’s flexability due to our arrival and departure problems as a result of the BA cabin crew strike….most especially on our last day when we really did have a very enjoyable day. The hikes were great…just right in both duration and difficulty…And we saw most of the beauty that is Corfu. The lunches were wonderful and many thanks to George’s sister for the beans in sauce and the exceptionally delicious spinach pie that we enjoyed on the beach walk. Evening meals were a delight and the choices available were wonderful. George was easily able to convey his love of Corfu to us and this has made it very possible that we shall return in the very near future. The Eva Palace, for us, was a wonderful hotel and even though we had limited time there we thoroughly enjoyed it and will definitely return to enjoy the hospitality of Eva Palace. So George and George a huge thank you for a very well organised trip and for enabling Sara & I to enjoy and appreciate Corfu.
Wishing you both health, happiness and properity for the future Warmest regards, Sara & Mervyn Lewis.

I wanted to thank you for your advice to go via the Irini Gorge from Sougia, and then the Samaria Gorge to Agia Roumelli. This was very pretty and easy walking. We particularly liked the old path from Agia Irini across the mountains to Omalos.

I just wanted to drop a line because my mother and I just returned from Crete yesterday. It was one of the best trips of my life! Our local guide, was unbelievably fantastic. We had a great group and the whole trip was phenomenal. The best part, though, was the connection that our guide had to the local people everywhere we went and the locals were some of the kindest, most interesting people I 've ever met. This allowed our entire group to really, truly experience how Cretans live. Thanks for a wonderful time!!!

It was great meeting you! Susan and I would like to thank you for the wonderful trip (despite her injury). We especially liked the personal attention we received and the fact that our guide, knew everyone! The program was ideal - but challenging - just what we were looking for. The hotels were good (some were great!) and the food was always good and exceeded our expectations. We learned so much about your beautiful area and hope to return again someday.

Just a note to thank you for your generous advice about hiking in southwest Crete when we came to see you about 4 weeks ago. We followed your plan and had a very enjoyable 5 days walking from Paleochora to Sougia, then Omalos, Agia Roumeli, Loutro and visiting the gorges. We also found your hotel contacts very useful. The weather was excellent - certainly hot enough to encourage swimming and make us appreciate the need to get moving early. We're now back in New Zealand looking forward to summer. Being able to do the walking made our visit to Crete that much more special - thanks again.
