Corfu, Ioannina, Vikos 12 days trekking

1st day: Corfu

Arrival at the airport of Corfu ; Overnight in Corfu.


2nd day: Corfu-Igoumenitsa-Ioannina

By boat to Igoumenitsa (1 hour) and from there the local bus will take us to Ioannina (2 hours). Before we can enjoy our meal at the small restaurant of our hotel, we have time to walk around the island with its beautiful churches and the byzantine monasteries.

 

3 rd day: Ioannina-Voidomatis-Megalo Papingo  (Vikos-Voidomatis-Papigo)

By bus to the green-blue river of Voidomatis. First hiking tour, beginning at the banks of the river and climbing up to the beautiful village of Megalo Papingo.We get acquainted with Ipiros' hard, mountainous but incredibly captivating landscape. The following two nights we spend in this village.
Walking time 5 hours.

4th day: Aoos river

Today we walk up from the village of Papingo to the top of the mountains in our vicinity (300 meters of altitude difference) ; from up there we have a fantastic view over to the albanian mountains and the vally of the river Aoos. Walking time 4 hours.


5th day: Astraka mountains-Drakolimni

The walk takes us up to the refuge of the Astraka mountains.There we are rewarded by the amazing landscape that spreads around us. Leaving our bags and feeling much lighter we can continue to the « Drakolimni », the « dragon’s lake ».Coming back to the refuge we spend the night there, where we can also relax enjoying a nice meal.

6th day: Gamila mountain-Tsepelovo

Crossing the Gamila (Tymfi) mountain we arrive at the wonderful village of Tsepelovo after a 6 hours' walk (500 meters difference). In this beautiful village with the traditional architecture we spend the night at Marys' pension, an old « archondiko » - a house that once belonged to one of the former aristocrats of the village. Our dinner is served in our little pension.

7th day: Stairs of Vitsa

Leaving Tsepelovo we will follow the traces of the local bears and wolves while crossing the colored forrests of the region. At the end we walk up the famous « stairs of Vitsa », a 200 years old paved stairway, which will bring us to the lovely pension of Takis and his wife in Vitsa. Meals in the pension that bears the name"selini"-the moon!

8th day: Vikos gorge

We cross one of the biggest european canyons ( about 20km.long ) the gorge of Vikos. Steep rock walls, up to 1000 meters high and a wild river with its great nature – turtles, butterflies, and, sometimes, a snake…
Walking time 6 hours. Overnight in Vitsa.


9th day: Corfu

Back to Corfu. From Vitsa we will have bus and then boat to Corfu where we will spend the night.

10th day: Corfu

Vatos and Pelekas to Liapades.(5  hours walking). There are 2 different areas that we will walk this day, the first walk start and ends in Vatos and the second walk start from Kanakades to Mirtiotissa, once called ' the loveliest beach in the world', and known as Corfu's unofficial nudist beach.
The route continues passing the village of Vatos and the Ropa River bank, bordered by pasture and willow trees, ascending into olive blanketed hills to the ancient village of Liapades

 

11th day: Corfu

This day we dedicate to the town of Corfu ;we walk through the old part of the town admiring the citadel and the esplanade with its arcades,we visit the town's churches and the Acchilion palace, summer retreat of the austrian empress Elisabeth « Sissi » as well as the archeological museum


12th day: Transfer to the airport for departures

Insurance: Limited insurance is held by the operator. The client acknowledges and accepts that there may be no policy covering the Company’s liability to its clients for death, injury, damage or loss occurring anywhere in the world. The client also specifically acknowledges that with respect to passenger accident liability cover this cover may be very limited or may not exist at all. The client acknowledges that the company has taken reasonable steps in safeguarding its liability. Although the Company does hold various insurances this booking condition states that the client must assume he/she is not covered by any Company insurance policy, including all liability insurance, for death, injury, damage or any other loss.

Period:  On Request Basis from April to October.

Transportation: We travel by our own mini-bus, which leaves us to walk and continues, with our baggage, to the next place where we will stay for the night.

Accommodation: Hotels in the cities, village pensions throughout the trip (all with private facilities).
The trip prices are based on double occupancy.

Food: Every morning we have breakfast in the hotels, picnic lunch en route and a dinner at local tavern. (Vegetarians are welcome on the trips)

Price per person: 2.125,00€

Group Size: minimum 4 participants.

Moderate trek with a maximum of 6-7 hours walk on rocky terrain.
