Hidden Mountains and golden beaches of the Cyclades
Greek sea above all, the Aegean boasts the greatest number of islands, including the sun bathed Cyclades group. Naxos, the largest one and Amorgos, the eastern one, offer inviting walks in the plain and on the mountain along low, dry stonewalls. Here everything is a question of color, transparent sea blue, sparkling whiteness of the houses, ochre of the bald hills, but also human contact .When in the villages the local songs reverberate in the evening air.
Day 1: Athens
Arrival in Athens, transfer to the hotel where we spend the night.
Day 2: Athens-Naxos
After breakfast a bus takes us to the port of Piraeus where we take the boat to Naxos (a 6 hour crossing). In the afternoon we visit Chora, the old city and the castle.
Day 3: Mili-Apano Kastro-Panagia Drosiani
Short bus transfer to Mili, visit of a 550 BC kouros statue. Then we start walking passing via Apano Kastro (a Venetian 9th century fort) to the Panagia Drosiani church (7th century AD) and on to the village of Moni where we have lunch. We have the afternoon free for swimming. 4hour walk.
Day 4: Zeus cave-Zeus Mount-Filati
Departure very early in the morning. We visit Zeus’ cave then we climb to the highest point in the Cyclades, the Zeus Mount (1003m), (a 5 hour walk both ways). We have lunch in the village of Filati. Afternoon swim.
Day 5: Naxos-Amorgos
Free morning to enjoy it as you please and then visit the Archeological museum. Departure by boat for Amorgos. (6hour crossing). Our base is Tholaria, a beautiful mountain village overlooking the bay. We spend the night in a hotel there.
Day 6: Tholaria
Free morning. Breakfast and swim in Levresso.
Day 7: Panagia Panochoriani monastery-Aghios Theologos
We take a path towards the Panagia Panochoriani monastery and then the one to Aghios Theologos (5th century AD), which is of great historical interest because of its walls baring still big parts of the original frescoes. After the visit we continue our walk until the church of Stavros and then we return to Tholaria. We spend the night in the hotel there. (5 hours of walking).
Day 8: Tholaria-Vlichada
We leave Tholaria on foot and go down a canyon to reach the beach of Vlichada (2 hour walk) where we swim. We leave to visit St John’s church built on a magnificent spot. (2 hours of walking).
Day 9: Lagada-Mount Krikelos
We walk from the pretty village of Lagada to the old windmills and we hike on the flanks of Mount Krikelos (821m). Return to Lagada. Afternoon swim. (5 hours of walking).
Day 10: Potamos-Asphodilichli-Monastery of Chozoviotissa
A path leads us to the villages of Potamos and Asphodilichli and then to the Byzantine monastery of Chozoviotissa (11th century AD), a beautiful site with great history built on a red soil slope above the sea. We will not visit the monastery today. We will take the bus to Chora and Katapola. Afternoon swim. (6 hours of walking).
Day 11: Katapola-Monastery of Chozoviotissa
We take the bus to the foot of the magnificent monastery of Chozoviotissa. After the visit we walk to Chora, through the picturesque, small streets and we have lunch there. (5 hours of walking).
Day 12: Varsamitis-Katapola
We take the path to Varsamitis and from there we reach the ancient site of Minoa, which overlooks Katapola. We return to Katapola. Afternoon swim. (4 hours of walking).
Day 13: Arkesini-Katapola
We follow the path that leads to Arkesini and then we continue till we reach a beautiful village named Vroutsi. Return to Katapola. Afternoon swim. (4 to 5 hours of walking).
Day 14: Amorgos-Piraeus
We take the boat from Amorgos to Piraeus and then a bus to the hotel in Athens. Free evening.
Day 15:
Departure flight.
Warning: Due to frequent changes of the boat timetables and depending on weather conditions (heat waves), the program might be modified.
TRIP DETAILS Price Includes : All accommodations, all meals from dinner on day 1 through breakfast on day 15, all picnic lunches, group transfers from and to the airport, all transportations throughout the trip, ferry ticket to Naxos, Amorgos,Piraeus luggage transportations, the tour leader - guide, all taxes and VAT.
Not Included : Air fare to and from Athens, personal travel-health insurance, alcoholic beverages and soft drinks, personal expenses, entrance fees in Museums, and other sites of interest that are not included in the trip description.
Insurance : Participants should be covered by their own personal travel-health insurance prior to the trip. The personal insurance must at least cover medical expenses as well as air rescue and the cost of repatriation.

Transportation : We travel by bus or Taxi, which leaves us to walk and continues, to the next place where we will stay for the night.
Accommodation : Hotels in the cities, village pensions throughout the trip (all with private facilities).
The trip prices are based on double occupancy.
Food : Every morning we have breakfast in the hotels, picnic lunch en route and a dinner at local tavern. (Vegetarians are welcome on the trips)
Group Size : 6 -16 participants.
Difficulty Level : Hike (1)
The hikes offer a moderate trek with a maximum of 4-5 hours walk. Participants should be in good physical condition with a little of experience.
